What is danceX?
danceX is an opportunity to showcase your amazing talents with a chance to win up to 10,000 dollars. The journey takes place over the course of 3 virtual events leading up to the live final event where cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 entries.
What kind of talent is danceX looking for?
Anything and everything. From solos to groups. Ballet to hip hop. Our main focus is different styles of dance. But all age appropriate styles of performance are encouraged. If you think you have what it takes, we want to see you on the danceX stage!
Can I enter more than one routine?
Absolutely! You just can’t submit two entries of the same style.
So where do I start?
You begin by filling out the registration form at dancex.net/register. The entry fee for soloists is 175 dollars. The entry fee for duos, trios, and groups is 100 dollars per performer.
Then what?
You will send us a 20-second video introducing yourself as well as a video of your performance. The performance can be a professionally shot video from a competition or recital, or a home video taken on a smartphone, as long as it’s clear and all of the performers are visible throughout. No vertical videos please.
Where am I sending these videos?
If the files will fit as an email attachment, you can send them to auditions@dancex.net. For larger files you can share them through a platform such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer. Include your name and the name of the routine with the email. They will be showcased at the virtual event.
Virtual event?
Three industry professionals will be present to judge the quality of performance demonstrated in your video. In a live webcast, your intro and routine will be aired and our judges panel will discuss what they liked about the performance and what they feel needs improvement in regards to technique, performance/artistry, choreography, and costume. They will then cast votes to determine whether the act qualifies to move on to the live semi-final event. A unanimous vote is necessary to advance.
How many of these virtual events will there be?
There will be three virtual events; September 18-19/2021, October 16-17/2021, and November 20-21/2021. They are broken up due to time constraints as there is a limit to the number of routines that can be shown in a single day. Depending on the turnout, additional broadcasts may be scheduled or existing ones merged together.
When will my video go live?
It largely depends on how early you sign up. The earliest registrations will be the first run during the September 18-19/2021 broadcast. As events fill up, additional registrations will spill over to subsequent broadcasts. Once registration has closed for an event, a schedule complete with times for each performance will be generated and emailed to all contestants. You can watch the entire show at dancex.net/live. Your result will be announced live after the judges have seen your performance. You will also be notified via email if you qualify for the semi-final.
I qualified for the semi-final! What’s next?
The semi-final event will take place in Orlando, Florida on January 15, 2021, with the final round taking place the following day. There is a 499 dollar per dancer per routine fee to enter. danceX does not cover travel or lodging expenses. Participation in the semi-final is not mandatory, but it’s the only path towards any cash prizes, including the ten thousand dollar ultimate prize. And there are lots of neat reasons to attend even if you don’t make it to the final round.
What happens at the semi-final?
You will be performing on stage before a live audience and subject to a second round of judging to determine whether your act advances to the final round. Outside of performing, there will be vendor booths set up and a host of activities and workshops to participate in. Various industry professionals will offer unique and inspiring classes built around their individual expertise throughout the day. This event will also be filmed for a TV pilot and participants will need to sign a release form to attend.
Can I modify a routine or perform an entirely different one at the semi-final?
Absolutely! The virtual audition, semi-final, and final can all be completely different performances if you want them to be. If you feel that your best chance at the top prize is to polish a familiar routine to perfection, then go for it! If you think you’d have better odds trying something bold and new, then go for it!
Can I bring guests?
Your 499 dollar entry fee includes 2 audience passes for the event. Additional passes are available for 20 dollars each.
Wait... Did you say 10 thousand dollars??
Yes. It all leads up to this. The final round will see the best of the best going head to head. Contestants will perform one more time before a live audience and panel of judges. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 scoring entries, including the ultimate first place prize of ten thousand dollars.
